The O’Hare 21 initiative consists of three primary terminal developments that are in different phases of planning, construction and design. Together with a set of Supporting Projects, these Signature Projects make up the capital improvement plan known as O’Hare 21.
Construction on the $1 billion expansion and renovation of Terminal 5 began in March 2019. The project will open in phases throughout 2023.
The new O'Hare Global Terminal will be one of the largest and most cutting-edge terminals in the nation, dramatically improving the first impressions that tens of millions of travelers will have when visiting Chicago each year.
Two new satellite concourses, Satellite 1 and Satellite 2, will play a significant role in transforming the face of O'Hare — providing modern new concourses designed with flexible gates to accommodate both narrow and wide-body airplanes.
